Do You Need A Builder or an Architectural Designer?

Do You Need A Builder or an Architectural Designer?

This is an excellent question, and is often debated in the design and construction industry.

The first thing you should ask yourself is ‘do you know exactly what you want?’

If you already have a clear picture in your head of exactly what you want the house extension or new dwelling to look like, and how you want the layout to function, then an experienced builder might be able to help you with the planning, drawings and regulatory requirements.

If however you need some expert guidance on what is possible or want something more bespoke, then you will likely need an architectural designer to give you some ideas and point you in the right direction.

Can you afford it to go wrong?

Appointing a professional can often save you frustration, ‘what if’s’ and time and money by thinking through all of the big picture and smaller details of the project, helping to avoid costly mistakes and redo’s down the line. We consider all elements of a build – from lighting and appliance locations, through to how your family will use the space / layout, neighbour considerations and much more. This saves you a huge amount of time and money if you only get a builder to draw up some basic plans without considering things like where the appliances will fit in discreetly, where the staircase should go to minimise taking up space, and how much natural lighting is desired in the kitchen.
